Cupcake hits her half year birthday

I can’t quite believe it but my cupcake baby has just turned 6 months. It has gone by in the blink of an eye and breaks my heart a little. 6 months ago she looked like this:

and this is her today:

She has become this beautiful, smiley, cuddly, crazy little girl. We’ve had our moments with her as colic ruled her days and nights for the first few months. Now we have reached the other side we can see what a naturally happy baby she is and it is a joy. You only have to look at her and she beams.

Things she loves: her big brother (she is FASCINATED by him), mum and dad, chewing on anything she can find, food, tv (uh oh), being carried around all the time, cuddles, trying to stand, warmth, charming random people in the street.

Things she hates: mummy leaving the room, gas, teething (she has 2 teeth!!!)

6 Month Milestones 

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
Turns toward sounds and voices – totally. She is nicknamed “distractor” because the minute she hears someone in the room or the tv she swivels to see what the deal is.
Imitates sounds – haven’t see much evidence of this to be honest. Am going to talk to her more as i think that i didn’t want to talk to her too much for fear of making munchkin jealous – silly
Rolls over in both directions – rolls over in both directions and now gets herself stuck in some funny places

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)
Is ready for solid foods – yes, she started solids a couple of weeks ago. She has had carrot, sweet potato, banana and apple. Loves it!
Sits without support – sometimes…has a distinct tendency to topple over
Mouths objects – 24/7 -the kid is orally fixated!!
Passes objects from hand to hand – Yes, most of the time.

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
Lunges forward or starts crawling – Lunges a lot, sometimes with bumpy consequences. Not crawling but can move backwards.
Jabbers or combines syllables – more like squeals a lot and coos.
Drags objects toward himself – this is a favourite, she can even drag the ipad away from her brother, much to his irritation!

As for sleeping, she has 3 naps a day and was sleeping through the night. Her New Year’s resolution appears to be to wake up at 4 am every night. Not loving that..

It is has been fascinating seeing in which ways she is like her brother (steely determination, loves music, is very strong) and how she is different (likes cuddles and giggles, is smaller, has baby blue eyes  and is a bit more chilled haha).

She is very much her own person and I am completely in love.

Can’t wait to see what the next 6 month bring. Happy half year birthday, my darling girl!
